To mark International Women’s Day 2023, we have a small exhibit in the foyer of the Herbarium building celebrating the work of A.L. Kathleen King (1893–1978) who was a leading authority on the study of mosses and liverworts, i.e. bryology, in Ireland for many years. King’s work greatly increased our knowledge of the Irish bryophyte flora, including the discovery of the moss Meesia triquetra new to Ireland. In 1977, King generously donated her collection of bryophytes, a remarkable 4,000 specimens, to the National Herbarium.
