FREE tour as part of National Heritage Week 2023.
The Irish hedgerow forms a patchwork quilt across our landscape that has formed part of Ireland’s living landscape for generations. Hedgerows offer interest and value throughout the year, whether it is the bubbling bird song emanating from the light green foliage of spring, or the cornucopia of fruits, berries and nuts for the autumn table. On this tour, discover how hedgerows provide a habitat for wildlife and a food source for pollinators while also acting as a carbon sink and flood mitigation. We will also address questions such as who planted the hedgerows, how and why. The tour concludes by examining the future of hedgerows, and how they can be preserved, managed and replanted for future generations.
