Artefact DescriptionShoe made from bulrush. Scirpus lacustris grows along the banks of rivers and lakes. In Ireland the bulrush was considered a fairy plant. As well as being used for thatching and weaving, every part of the bulrush is edible - the pollen, stem, leaves, roots and seeds. The roots are also used medicinally to treat skin and genitourinary disorders as well as neoplasms.
