The National Botanic Gardens no longer distributes a printed version of its Index Seminum

As a member of the Global Partnership for Plant Conservation, the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin, remains committed to support and promote national and international scientific research, education, conservation and sustainable use of plants by making available, as appropriate, genetic material from the collections of the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland to other bona fide users.

All distribution of plant material (including propagules) from the National Botanic Gardens of Ireland shall continue to be in accordance with the provisions of the Nagoya Protocol and the Convention on Biological Diversity, and in support of the Global Strategy for Plant Conservation.

  • Every appropriate effort shall be made to include material of known and documented origins only, unless there is a specific reason for including undocumented material.
  • No known invasive species shall be included in future seed lists
  • No material will be included in the Index Seminum that has been collected in the wild since 1992 in countries other than Ireland, unless specific permission to distribute such material has been given by the relevant authorities in the provider country.
As well as the listed seeds below, we can also, where appropriate, supply material directly from our collections, either as seed cuttings or other propagation material.

Please download an order request form here.
Only gardens that are part of the seed exchange programme will have their requests honoured.
Please return the signed card to the National Botanic Gardens not later than 30 May, 2015.
