SR In the absence of specimens, the identity of some early records was doubted (Cyb 1866). A specimen from 4 collected in the Botanic Garden, Cork 1849 was confirmed by the Fumaria expert H.W. Pugsley (DBN); see Praeger (1905c).

SR The species was first defined by H.W. Pugsley in the early 1900s, with scattered records in Ireland; an earlier Fumaria record from Glenmore, Co. Antrim in 1859 was redetermined by him as F. purpurea (FDub 1904, Praeger 1906a, Wear 1923).
