Name a new Tulip, and win a trip for two to Amsterdam

Name this Tulip and Win a prize!

The Dutch Embassy is running a competition to name a new cultivar of tulip specially bred by Jan Ligthart in honour of Ireland (right). Entries must be sent to the to Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands before the 9th March. The Jury will be chaired by former President Mary McAleese, and the tulip will be officially named on the 29th March at the National Botanic Gardens. The winner will receive a trip to Amsterdam for two. Read more here . . .

This spring we have a full program of Gardening and Botany classes as well as gardening workshops on growing vegetables, herbs, summer salads and bonsai. A special Tree Feast is planned for the 7th March Book early to avoid disappointment if you want to attend these populat events.

Irish Plant Scientist’s Association Meeting 2012

We are pleased to announce that the National Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin and the Office of Public Works will be hosting the Irish Plant Scientist’s Association Meeting (IPSAM) 2012. The conference will run from midday on Tuesday 3rd April to after lunch on Thursday 5th April 2012.

Lecture –‘The Future of Botany’ A Personal Perspective

Irish Willow varieties

Dr Trevor Hodkinson has been a lecturer at Trinity College since 1997 and runs a busy research team at the Trinity Botany School. He is actively working to improve the quality of Irish timber and the productivity of exotic grasses as biomass crops. Trevor will talk about his work and travels around the world on Thursday 26th January 2012 at 8 pm in the Visitor Centre. Organised by the Irish Garden Plant Society.
